Patches Yamaha Thr10x

Yamaha THR10X (controls)

Yamaha's THR 'third amp' concept assumes we all have our big stage stacks and a club-sized combo, and while this may seem a little unrealistic, there's no doubt that the original THR amps put the desktop practice/recording amp concept firmly on the map.

Now we have three more additions: the THR10X (reviewed in full here), the THR10C and electro-acoustic-specific THR5A.

About the same size and shape of a loaf of sliced bread, the originals were finished in a nondescript satin 'computer beige' colour. The new model seems pepped up with a camo green finish. The screen-printed lettering around the controls could do with being a little bolder, but overall the new finish looks smart.

Beneath the steel fascia there's an injection-moulded plastic chassis that also forms the amp's ported stereo loudspeaker enclosure, while the circuit board is mounted to the top surface. The THRs are all DC-powered with a supplied mains adaptor or eight AA cells. The snap-on plastic battery cover looks reasonably robust, though we'd prefer to see it secured by a screw for long-term reliability.

Power indication comes from the active amp model LED on the control surface as well as two more orange LEDs behind the steel louvre speaker grille, providing the retro glow effect that Yamaha calls Virtual Tube Illumination. The circuit is on one neatly finished PCB full of miniature surface-mount components, many of which appear to be custom-made.

There's a single standard jack input for guitar, a separate aux input mini jack for mp3 players or other audio sources, and a headphone output jack. On the rear surface, there's the DC power input and a USB socket. You'll also find an eight-position amp model selector, which feeds gain and channel volume controls as well as the standard bass, mid and treble tone network.

The next two knobs govern the THR's built-in effects, with one control for modulation sounds and the other for delay and reverb. In common with many other modelling amps, both effects knobs are divided into four sectors, progressively varying the mix level of your chosen effect before moving on to the next one. Turning either knob fully anti-clockwise bypasses the effect.

The positions of these eight knobs can be stored and recalled into one of five presets, accessed by a series of small pushbuttons. Another small button operates the delay's tap tempo function and the THR's built-in tuner.

A small circular LED display shows the active preset number and also provides tuning and tap tempo rate information. On the right of the control surface, two more non-programmable knobs set the overall output level for the amp and whatever's plugged into the aux input.

With the amp connected via its USB port, and the THR editor installed, you can access the amps' hidden functions, including a noise gate and a superb compressor.

You can also swap reverbs from the default spring/hall types the THR comes with, toggle the extended stereo-imaging circuit, fully control the modulation effects and have millisecond-accurate control of the delays. You can even turn off those VTI LEDs. Crucially, you can store and save up to 100 user patches, which can be sent and recalled from the THR.

The Steinberg USB driver streams audio into or out of your choice of recording and playback software, including Cubase AI, bundled with the amp. There's also a THR app for iPhones called Session, which lets you notch out the guitar from pre-recorded music, speed it up or down and vary pitch by up to a semitone in either direction so you can play along with all your favourite tracks. One thing you can't do is port amp sounds or effects from one THR to another.

Sounds

The THR's sounds are created using Yamaha's proprietary Virtual Circuit Modelling process, a technology central to the company's high-end digital mixing consoles. For speakers, Yamaha turned to its own hi-fi division to create the drivers and enclosures, designed to enhance the amp's Extended Stereo Imaging feature and overall tonality.

In short, a lot of serious tech has been leveraged by Yamaha to make the THRs sound good - and the amp sounds huge at low to medium volume, with a natural response that makes it very easy to play.

The extended stereo imaging effect works best at close quarters. At first, it's a little disorienting because the sound appears to be coming from invisible sources about six feet either side of your head. Once you get used to it, though, it's very impressive, especially when you realise everything comes from two speakers not much bigger than headphones.

The X model is inspired by some top metal heads from the USA and Europe. The sounds are truly excellent and wouldn't be out of place on any pro recording, while the effects are also superb.

Above all, and despite the considerable technology involved, the amp is good fun to use and creates some serious recorded tones - the USB interface makes it a snap to put down some rewarding and very usable sounds.

While there are many small modelling amps around today, few of them look or sound as good as the THR, and none in this size offer stereo. But one thing that nearly everyone we showed it to commented on was the lack of a proper line out for connection to PA or mixing desk. Of course, in the context of the THR's 'third amp' concept, there's no need for one.

That said, if a stereo balanced line out was added, there's no doubt that they'd become ideal live performance partners for many musicians - the headphone output goes some way to providing this, though it's a little too noisy for professional use. But for home practice and recording, the quality of sound is truly outstanding, as is, we'd wager, the sales potential!

  • Keith

I've been playing for guitar 30 years and wanted something small to practice around the house and stop being confined in the den with the 'normally doesn't get moved' audio equipment. Did a lot research and finally chose this and am very happy I did. Very impressed the sound and sustain that this little box produces, it sounds great.

  • The Very Best in Its Class - and then some!

Do not be fooled by its unassuming appearance. This best of breed desktop modeling amp entry from Yamaha will give even the most sophisticated rigs a run for their money. Nothing can touch it in the modeling world IMO especially for the price. Feels and responds like a tube amp should. Light as a feather, travels well. Any beginner's very best option. There's a reason THR stands for 'third' - Yamaha knows you'll keep your amp head and stack plus small combo amp - but you still need this third desktop travel amp. The sound will blow you away.

  • Truly amazing

This amp is like having five of your favorite guitarists rigs on loan. I'm 49 and have been playing since I was 12. I'm a Marshall tube amp guy. This is the first modeling amp I've ever played that truly sounds like a tube amp. All the better, when you are not playing and the guitar volume is on, the amp is quiet. Super portable, intuitive controls, amazing sounds. Love the on board effects. I really am wowed by how much fun, and how little hassle this amp is. My only complaint is that the printing for which knob does what is barely readable because the ink color is not contrasted enough from the color of the amp. Not too big a deal as I've mostly memorized them in short order anyway.

  • THR10X is a Game Changer!

Please make this in a 50 or 100 watt head version. I've owned and used many tube and solid state amps but nothing sounds quite as good as this amazing product. If you're a player that likes heavier distorted tones this amp is for you. It sounds great right out of the box. Van Halen, AC/DC or metal its easy to dial in on this amp. Great product Yamaha!

  • Perfect for my condo jam space

I was having a hard time finding a decent amp that sounded good in my crappy little condo in Portland. I tried a mesa boogie mark V 25 but could never crank it up and the acoustics in my practice room sounded like crap. Probably because I'm living in a relatively old building. Anyhow, my guitar teacher had the THR10 version of this in her teaching studio and I absolutely loved it but opted to get the Hi-Gain version. So happy I went that route. Only have had it for a week but it's definitely living up to the hype.
If you want a quality practice amp that isn't too loud or muddy, this is a great option, especially if you don't want to piss of your neighbors. Thanks to Aaron my sales engineering for talking me into this rather than getting the Boss Katana mini.

  • A M A Z I N G ! ! ! m/

I own a lot of high end guitar gear (Fractal, Friedman, TC) & love tube & digital gear. I started taking lessons from Sammy Boller (Citizen Zero) in Detroit & he had this little Yamaha THR10X amp that I'd seen many times, but never heard before. I was literally SHOCKED at what I heard tone wise, FX wise & volume wise. This little practice amp has a great 3D sound that's much bigger then it looks. There's plenty of volume & the portability is the real key thing here. It fills a void & lets you practice or jam to your iphone anywhere that you want. I'm amazed at this device & think it's a great tool for practicing.

  • Epic As %*@$!

Love this little amp. Not a whole lot to it, can't mess it up much. Awesome little practice amp, but also fun for small get togethers or recording sessions where you don't need the power of a 90-ton cattle pushing through your system.
Well, now I wanna play it again.. So here's the end of my review!
    WOOOOOOOOOO

  • Yamaha THR10X

I just picked one of these puppies up after hearing some You Tube videos and listening to many amps under 500.00 (my Budget ) it is simply AMAZING!!!!
the cleanest ,Warmest sound i have heard from such a small budget friendly Amp.
this little guy can go pretty darn loud! i was amazed at the warm clean perfection of the Distortion and the clean sound is very very clean and solid ! The effects add just a perfect amount of icing on the cake .I think i have a new best friend .I am blown away and i saved a lot of money . Buy it

  • Every Bit As-Good-As Advertised

I play pro-level tube amps. I have owned or played most brands. I prefer the hot-rodded Fender sound of Mesa Boogie amps with Eventide effects and this is what I use for my basis of comparison to everything. Yamaha has the best digital modeling algorithms I have ever used. The THR series all sound fabulous, you can't go wrong with any of them. I like over-driven amps, so I got the THR10X. It is far more organic and realistic sounding than any other digital modeler and touch-sensitive like the real thing. The convenience of this little guy with built-in hi-fi speakers and input for your phone, iPad or computer is amazing. Makes practicing on travel a breeze. So light and compact. Plenty loud. It doesn't have all the options of the many times more expensive Line 6 Helix, but it has way better feel and tone if you ask me. BTW, I just don't see valve amps ever fully being replaced at the professional level. Yeah, pro-sumers may just choose the convenience of and all-in-one rig. But tonal purists? I doubt it. This little THR practice amp comes close for times when you need convenience and portability. Keep your valve amps.

  • One word..WOW!!!

This little gem is everything I wanted and more. It has full sound, for something so small you will do a double take. The effects are spot on and the amp sound choices will cover any sound you might want. Of all the little box amps on the market, this one takes the reigns. Well worth a look.

  • Little amp, big amazing sound

I was completely blown away from the effects and sound from this tiny impressive amp. My son bought this same amp and after hearing the quality and seeing the potential I knew I had to own one. Mukta mukta kannada serial actors.

  • Yamaha perfection

My review is going to stick to the amp only as trying to get the software to work on my computer has been beyond difficult.
This amp sounds so amazing I can't believe how inexpensive it is. I am a nooby to the world of guitar playing but have an extensive music background with woodwind instruments. My home theatre system consists of Paradigm speakers with all Marantz components so I'm a bit of a sound aficionado. I like the sound and effects of this amp so much that I bought a second one in a slightly different model. So now I own the C and X models and will probably be buying the third cream colored plain model as well just so I have the trifecta. I've been having a ton of fun playing with all of the different settings and my Gibson Les Paul and my Epiphone AJ 45 ME have replaced all of my former movie watching couch time.
Trust your sales engineer to guide you through the buying process and you will not be disappointed. My sales engineer is Jordan Clohessy so if you don't have one yet call and ask for his amazing help.
Tha th tha that's all folks!

  • Buy It!

If you're looking for a practice/recording amp that is easy to travel with and sounds amazing, look no further. Yamaha has done an amazing job with this product. It's small and very lightweight. The built in effects sound really nice, and the tones this thing produces are unbelievable. The vintage inspired look is also really cool.
I was looking for a small amp to practice with when I'm on the road, but the tone is so good that I'm going to end up recording this amp as well. If you want nice high gain tones at a manageable volume, this is definitely for you.
I'm thoroughly impressed with the THR10x, and as always Sweetwater provided a great shopping experience!

  • Crazy good!

I never usually write a review, but this amp is just crazily, amazingly good for the size and price. I bought a Boss GT100 about a week ago mainly for practice on the go but i ended up returning it. Don't get me wrong, i think it's amazing but i eneded up tweaking the time i had it instead of playing. It's just not for me. Well If you want to get a good tone right out of the box then just go ahead and buy this amp. You'll thank yourself when you get it.

  • Truly the best practice amp for drop c/d bone shattering-distortion metal heads

When it comes to metal, I stray away from more trebley punk style riffs with evenly spaced out eighth note strums/palm mutes, and try to search for more syncopated, low-end heavy riffs that make you want to headbang at paces that wont break your neck. While I respect classic 80s metal bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica for laying down the blueprint and breaking the barriers for metal, it's not the sound I prefer when I like to play myself. Which brings me to this gem of an amp.
    Pros:
-As much gain as you will ever get in a small practice amp. If you do want more with more EQ customization, which is possible, you're going to have to dish out a couple thou. You don't get mesa boogie dirt without the mesa boogie. Regardless, this thing smashes out some truly high quality distortion. Clear articulation even at max gain for each string.
-EQ knobs really do shape the tone in ways that would for a half stack worth hundreds more. You can get all kinds of metal sounds, especially the more treble heavy sounds, but I believe many amps within this price range can hit those. It's when you want the low end snarl that you're left wanting a different amp.
-All 5 amp settings are entirely usable and very unique from eachother. Not a hodge-podge that Yamaha just slapped on for pizazz. Love using each one for all kinds of styles of metal/rock.
-The amp's clean settings are astounding. It's just a result of a high-quality, extremely well-designed amp.
-It's different from other amps in the way it's designed. I'm not too sure how, but I know that Yamaha didn't wire this thing the normal way. That's why you can get sounds from this unusual looking thing with 2x3' speakers that 1)can get extremely loud and 2)not sound like crap at those levels. You won't gig with this unless you mic it up but it's plenty loud for your practicing needs (without a drummer that is).
-Can do all the customization this this offers off your computer. Saint seiya omega streaming vf. It's not infinite in its possibilities, but everything this amp can do, you can touch up on it with the THR Editor.
    Cons:
-You can't crank this thing at max settings and have the bass at 10. It breaks up in a bad way but you can still have solid bass at around 5-7. It's just a matter of physics at that point, 2x3' speakers won't magically play like 4x12s.
-Not loud enough and can't plug it into a cab. Notice how the cons are related to it being a practice amp for low volumes.
One tip for all users of this amp is to understand the way the gain, master, and guitar knobs work. I read the manual after I was displeased with the levels of gain this thing was putting out. It was almost enough to have me go through the return process. Thank everything good that I read the manual. Basically, the gain and master knobs will affect the tone, and the guitar knob simply adjusts the amp's final output volume. Before I had the gain up to 10, the master down to 2-3, and the guitar knob cranked and it was producing pretty weak sounds. Clean channels sounded great but not the dirty ones. Now that I have the master and gain cranked at 10 and the guitar knob lower, I can truly enjoy all 5 amps, whereas before the I amps were unfavorable compared to the II amps.

  • Best bedroom amp, period!

Over the years I have spent way too much money and bought and returned or sold too many amps to remember. I always wanted a tube amp to get the rich tone but they usually ended up being too loud. Well the amp search has ended. I saw this amp on youtube and started researching it, everyone said it was amazing. I found a demo at Sweetwater and for less than $ I am done. Too many features to list, the important thing is the tone. Dialed in a great brown sound in about 30 seconds. Forgot to eat dinner last night because I played for 5 hours straight. Do not let the size of this amp fool you. No, you will not gig with this amp, but if you want to jam with amazing tone around your home, look no further.

  • Amazing Little Amp!!

I just received this little wonder, dialed in a couple of my favorite tones and started playing. So much fun!! This is certainly an amp I can/will travel with, unlike my other amps. True stereo sound is really inspiring. If your on the fence about purchasing, don't be. For the price you can't beat this amp and sound. Pick one up.

  • Simply amazing!

First off let me start by praising Sweetwaters excellent staff and personal attention making sure everything is perfect before promptly shipping a well packed item!
Now..to this little marvel of a practice amp and so much more.
I needed a small combo amp with headphone jack due to apartment life and all the joys a musician experiences with neighbors on all sides separated by thin walls.lol
Thanks to all the killer reviews on this site I narrowed it down to the perfect solution for me..the Yamaha THR 10X!
All the different amp voices and built in effects will most likely be all I'll ever need in such a simple, compact unit that I can easily take anywhere and it runs on batteries so literally you can use it anywhere!
Beautiful clean tones and brutal crunch at the twist of a knob.
I've only played my newest guitar(ESP M-ii)through it but I'm looking forward to hearing how my '80 Strat sounds after I fix a broken cord jack.
I'm not sure what else to say except buy this and you won't be sorry!.. affordable, killer tones, compact size, battery or plug powered, headphone jack so you can melt your own face and not get evicted for complaints. Lol

  • Nails great metal AND clean tones.

I am a 50 year old who has been playing guitar for 34 years. I have had my share of great tube amps, and so I am going to admit to being a tube amp tone snob. Well, I am here to tell you that this amp does a GREAT job emulating overdriven tube sounds as well as giving you a wonderful clean channel.
I wanted to be able to cover pretty much every sound I play in one device. This amp will be my daily practice buddy for years to come. I have only fiddled with the amp for about an hour so far, but this is my initial impression.
CLEAN - I love the sound of a clean Stratocaster. On the clean setting with reverb, my Jim Hendrix Strat sings through the THR10X with the bell like quality you expect from a Fender amplifier. Little Wing, SRV, Yellow Ledbetter..those tones can be pulled from this amp. Do NOT be worried that this amplifier is strictly for the metal players out there, I am telling you to trust me when I tell you the clean channel is wonderful.
POWER & BROWN settings - I plugged in my Les Paul for this evaluation and ran through the various amp models. I am delighted to report that I got a respectable Marshall overdriven sound at conversation levels. Toying with the gain itself, I can cover pretty much any of my favorite hard rock bands from Zeppelin to Van Halen to Randy Rhoads to Metallica.
SOUTHERN HI - I played with this amp the least, but quickly determined that there is enough quality gain in this amp model to faithfully put you into Pantera territory.
With that being said, I am comfortable that my tone needs are covered.
I have read that the amp responds to pedals well, but have yet to test that out. I will be plugging my Xotic EP booster, wah pedal & univibe later today to see if I can pull out that Hendrix-like tone we all know on Voodoo Chile and Machine Gun.
This amp is about the size of a loaf of bread. However, size doesn't always matter..at least when it comes to tone. The darn thing is cute..and I am not ashamed to say it! I can put this little amp just about anywhere. For portability, I bought the case that is available for the THR10X & it is well padded.
I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on this little amp, and I am glad I did! My research saved me a LOT of money and delivered the tones I want to hear.
If you are seeking a practice amp, just buy a Yamaha THR that suits your musical style. This amplifier will cover the tones you are chasing while at a level that your kids and spouse can sleep through at night.
Kudos as always to my Sales Engineer Brent. Sweetwater has, in my opinion, the best customer service I have ever experienced from an online business. I will ONLY buy my gear from Sweetwater.

  • Amazing

No need to reiterate what everyone else is saying - only to say it's all true! If you're a bedroom/basement player, this (and its other versions) is (are) the only the amp(s) you need. The rest is just a waste of $ and space. For giggers, it's all the practice amp you'd ever need. A technological marvel, in it's analog-type sound & feel.

  • Insanity

To start with let me just say that I bought this primarily for home jamming and maybe some recording but this little guy is so much more than that. I have it sitting on top of my bugera trirec and to be honest the tones that I get out of the thr10x rival the trirec if not surpass in some aspects. The built in effects are slim but everything you could possibly need for tone tuning. A little bit of delay, hall reverb and it's bone crushing with pinch harmonics for days. I'm still not sure of the speaker setup in it bit it appears to be two drivers with some sort of bass concentration system and it's ran stereo so the depth and clarity are insane. 100% recommend for metal heads/ blues lovers. You will not be disappointed

  • small amp big fun

this is a really good sounding small amp. I have a lot of fun with it, I feel it is well worth the price, I may buy another model in this line.

  • Perfect Tool!

    I LOVE THIS LITTLE AMP!
I purchased it so that I could work on my chops during my lunch time at work.
Great tones and options to shape.
Love the USB connection to my PC which allows me to play along with tracks I am learning.
Perfect size, looks cool and solves all of my needs.
I haven't played it much without headphones so I am skipping that for this review.
If you like high-gain amps then this baby is for you.

  • Yamaha THR10X 10 watt

Amazeing amp!! This amp is perfect for what i need!! The gain on it is outstanding!! There is so much you can do to get the sounds your looking for!! If your a Van Halen fan like me and looking for a way to to get his sound in a small package look out because this amp will do just that!! But not only Van Halen it delivers so much more you can do just about any thing with it!! Its perfect for travel practice in the studio and i evean ran it through a good PA system and i was blown away!! You can feel and hear that stereo sound volume low or up its amazeing!! Thank you Sweetwater for your help once again!!

  • Yamaha THR10x, a personal game changer

This thing is great. I live in an apartment which leaves little inspiration when your used to blasting a half stack and now forced to put on headphones with cheap older gear. The Thr10x allows me to put on headphones but hear a full stack again. I don't know how they did it but props to the Yamaha guys. Finally you can have that beefy half stack / full stack sound but it's at a volume that everyone can enjoy, especially apartment neighbors. It's not perfect by any means but a huge leap in the right direction. I still don't get the pant blowing vibration I front of the 4x12 but hey at least I can hear it. Haha. The features are great. I just to get a computer and then I'll be pretty much set for e recording thanks to this thing. The effects sound pretty good, not the best, but still good to work with and have. I am absolutely pleased with this purchase and would buy it in a heart beat if anything were to happen to it. Give one a try!

  • Amazing

The sound at all volumes is amazing .this amp makes practicing more rewarding & easier because of the sound quality and portability .would definitely recommend

  • This is it!!!

The next live gig I play, I will use this amp and mic it, or run the headphone output to the mixer. This amp has it all, classic rock, metal, country, jazz, tones that you can twist into your sound. I've got a thousand dollars worth of pedals that are going on the shelf because I got this thr10x.

  • Great buy

I went 100 dollars over budget to buy this, but I'm totally glad I did because I'll be happy with this for quite a while. I got sick of my Line 6 Spider and wanted an upgrade, but not a 'bigger' amp, just a better one because I play at home and there's no need for bulk. I play some alternative and metal core, and this is the perfect amp for the metal core (it's no problem finding good amps for alternative). I don't feel like I totally depend on having an amazing distortion pedal; the amp is good enough to stand on it's own. Totally happy with it - the housing seems really well made and sturdy so hopefully the electronic inner-workings are too. So if you're looking for an amp for metal core and don't want to waste another 100 dollars on a distortion pedal, buy this amp!

  • Best of the Desk-top amps !!!!

Just a wonderful product..eazy to use right out of the box--sounds great, but dive into the editor, unbelievable tones !!! love the design of this little beast--light and compact--well worth the price, if you are looking for a practice/bedroom amp, you can't find a better device !!! 5-star...

  • Awesome little practice/portable amp that rocks!

I just bought the THR10X. I can't even begin to express with words how amazing this baby sounds.
It's obviously not a 6505+/5150 or Mesa Triple Rec cranked to ear bleeding levels. It is exactly what it proclaims to be, the 3rd amp. That little amp you can set down next to you on the table or couch and practice with. Although the stereo imagine makes this thing sound 10x bigger than it is.
I'm firmly rooted in 80s and 90s metal and hard rock, so these are the sounds I'm looking for.
The VH brown sound is incredible. Every time I hit this patch, I can't help but play my favorite old VH tunes(VH, VHII, Diver Down, Women and Children first). It even pulls a pretty good 5150 sound on Summer nights.
I've also got pretty good 90s Megadeth, early Metallica, Extreme, early Malmsteen, even Led Zepp's Wanton Song tone from this amp. The trick is to use the software (THR editor) that comes with it. You can dial in some pretty awesome sounds with the knobs straight out of the box, but the THR editor let's you really dig deep into the settings. It give you the ability to change cabinet models, tweak very specific parameters on all effects(delay, reverb, tremolo, flange, phase, chorus, noise gate, compressor) plus fine tune bass, mid, treble, gain, and master volume. settings can be saved in the editor and you can save 5 patches straight to the amp.
The battery life is impressive too. I bought some new Energizer rechargables and have been running the amp on battery power as a test for a good solid 5 hours so far with no signs of weakness.
Add in the fact that you can plug in your ipod or laptop/pc and jam along with your favorite songs/jamtracks/whatever.
If you're young and broke, this may not seem to be the best use of 300 bucks, but as a 42 year old with 27 years of playing and a steady income, this thing seems like a steal. I have all the 'big gun' and 'garage jam' amps I need. This one fills that 'piddle around on the couch' gap.
I'm totally impressed and absolutely love this little amp!

  • Best Practice Amp out..Does It ALL!

Not only can you get great high gain tones from this amp, but you also get some pretty good effects as well.
But wait there is more. It comes with Cubase and also serves as a recording interface/studio monitor.
There are too many features to list.
I have been playing guitar for over 17 years and have had all kinds of amps from high end to the lowest of low. I can honestly say that for a practice/bedroom amp, this is very hard to beat!

  • Monster Breadloaf

After debating on a small practice amp that doesn't use tubes, and with some help on the decision I settled upon this. I play heavier stuff mostly so it's great, but that's definitely not where it ends. It has a nice clean, and really sounds 3x it's size in sound. The full EQ and surprisingly great sounding FX give you a lot to work with, and most importantly, no waiting on tubes to cool off/heat up, no trying to find a way to get good sound at low volume. Plug your guitar in and go.
The only downside and it may be just me, but the software was finnicky when it came to use. The THR editor had to be removed and installed a couple of times, and had to read further than what came in the book. The Cubase was also a trick as well. As said though, could've just been me. All things considered still a wonderful purchase.
Shout out to Matt at Sweetwater for the patience, and delivering a great product as always!

  • Easy Fun

Arrived in great condition right on schedule. Super easy to use. I no longer need to chain pedals together to practice or record. The Yamaha THR10X sounds great all by itself. I was looking to replace my direct recording process of using the mixer out on a variety of Digitech pedals. The Digitech pedals seemed to decrease the presence of my guitar in a mix. I haven't completed a song yet using the THR10X, but I did do some test recordings using both the headphones output going directory to my audio interface, and the THR10X's USB interface. Both recordings sounded great. Very clean recordings. From my initial recording tests, the THR10X seems to have more presence/edge/attack to its sound compared to the mixer out on Digitech pedals. The THR10X also sounds way better than any amp simulator plugins I've ever used. My only trivial complaints are:
    - The reverb and phaser effects are a nice wide stereo sound, but the delay effect is mono (it doesn't bounce from left to right).
    - I haven't figured out yet how to change the time on the delay, and don't know if that's possible.
    - I wish there were discrete left and right outputs alongside the headphone output so that I wouldn't have to use adapters to split the headphone output to left and right.
Overall, great product. I'm eager to use it in recordings. The low end is beefy. My Schecter 9 string sounds amazing running through the THR10X.

  • Pure Awesome

As far as small portable practice amps go, it doesn't get much better than this. This one in particular is the 'high gain' model but for those who want a bit more versatility, don't worry. This one will do fine with anything you throw at it from clean, to a mild breakup to whatever. This amp is hard to beat. The only thing I have to take away points from it for is that I think it's .well. Overpriced. But if you can afford it, and you want something portable yet still sound completely awesome, go for it. This thing takes barely ANY space, sounds amazing for either practice or recording, and despite its small size, it sounds a lot bigger than it looks. To put things into perspective, I've been playing for about 10 years or more, and have played at least 50 amps or more in my lifetime ranging from the cheapest garbage to Mesa Triple Rectifiers, Carvin amps, etc etc.

  • Very pleased

I can't believe how good this little amp sounds! As many have stated before, it may be replacing my older pedals and rack mounts.Hard rock to metal tones are very gratifying. Plenty loud for practicing and recording. 1/2 on volume is more than enough. Excited to use the editor and the free lite version of Cubase. $299, no tax, free shipping..seriously we musicians are used to getting ripped off. This is a deal! Only gripe..no MIDI controller pedal input.

  • Great Little Practice Amp

Good stereo rich sound. Plenty of options to tweak via the editor. More than loud enough for practice or recording. Don't expect to play with a drummer and be heard though. Power 1,2 and Brown 1,2 with the presets are not very different as far as tone. Once you tweak via the editor it is much better. Overall a good value and better sound than the first generation Vypyr or Roland Cubes.

  • Great sounding amp

You will be amazed at the sound and volume that comes out of this amp. I use it for practice when i do not want to plug into my big rigs. You will not be disappointed!

  • Dissapointing

Don't get me wrong, sweetwater and their reps made this a very pleasant experience buying this amp and I will definitely buy again from here, but I am very dissapointed with this little amp. I know, it's just a practice amp but to me, my spider 3 sounds way better, and trust me I bought this so I could get rid of the darn thing. Definitely try before you buy. The clean channel and effects are very nice, but none of the gain stages (which are why I bought this amp) made me confirm any of the good news I heard.

  • Sounds great on YouTube, but in real life..NO.

Purchased this after it caught my attention on YouTube and ended up returning it a week later. I have to agree with a couple of others here who gave this one or two stars. I would give it zero if I could. I do hear the brown sound from this but it is way too muddy. Increasing mids and treble does not correct the problem. The chorus isn't very noticeable, even when the 'extra-wide' feature is activated. This might be good for a pre-teen looking for their first bedroom practice amp, but that's about it. No fault of Sweetwater's. I have had many positive experiences with them and will purchase from them again.

  • Terrible!!!

I am very surprised at all of the super positive reviews that I have read about this amp. Not to insult anyone, but have any of you ever played through a real amp? I bought this based on all of the reviews that I have read and just received it this morning. No lie, this is the worst piece of crap I have ever heard. It literally sounds worse than a POD. Flubby digital farty distortion. Do yourself a favor and buy the Vox Mini 3 at one third the price. I have one and it blows this away!!
