Greetings, PC adventurer! Maybe you've conquered vanilla Skyrim but not yet plucked up the courage to delve into the dark, intimidating depths of modding. Lucky for you, you coward, there's never been a better time to start.
With the recent launch of the Skyrim Creation Kit, a tool for empowering Skyrim modders to create and edit game elements, there's a whole slew of brilliant mods that have just arrived and are on the horizon.
That kit can also publish mods directly to the Steam Workshop platform, and with this nifty little interface, you can manage a whole bunch of popular mods from within the simple and familiar surroundings of the Steam application. Spy a mod you want? Simply click 'subscribe' and next time you open the game, BAM: it installs. Wonderful.
We had a trawl through the offerings of the Steam Workshop and returned with our five favorites. Enjoy!

Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1
It's Portal 2 all up in your Skyrim. This mod from Valve and Bethesda adds Portal 2's chatty, space-obsessed core to your game. He'll come crashing down in Tamriel, and you'll go pick him up. It'll be great.
Ice Island
When you install this mod, you too can visit the coldest vacation spot in Skyrim. Oh, and there's a giant at the summit for some reason. Naturally, we murdered him.
Rabbit Rage
This mod appears to be an homage to Monty Python's The Holy Grail. It makes the bunnies sound super mean, although they don't go as far a ripping your throat out…yet.
Bigger Giants
This mod sure makes the giants significantly more intimidating. By contrast, however, it makes their mammoths look super cute! D'awww.
Open Cities Skyrim
Loading screens can be a thing of the past when entering cities with this mod; just open the gate and waltz on through. Currently, this only works for Riften and Markarth, but it's surely only a matter of time before you can go horse riding through all of your favorite holds and cities.

Something that's bothered me since the release of Skyrim:
Everything I've seen said that the unreleased creation kit will be identical to the software that they used to create Skyrim, and that Skyrim was designed on PCs.
Why didn't they just release it at the same time as Skyrim? The only clue I've heard was adding Steam support to distribute the mods. Is this the only reason we've waited 2 months for the kit?
By now, I expected an unofficial patch to have been released repairing all those places where the rock's surfaces fail to intersect with the ground, and you can see that it is hollow. I've seen several instances of this. I don't expect them to waste patching time tracking all of these down, but the community is usually quick to fix these if given the tools. My theory is that they have some bits in there that might spoil threads for DLC, and put off releasing it until closer to the release dates for the DLC. Updated the release date section to reflect the fact that Bethesda, in that Nowgamer article, have not said the CS will be out in early February, only that it won't be far behind the patch due in early Feb. An anon has been updating the page saying it's out now (I know it's the 7th of feburary and its said to come out today) but I cannot find anything actually saying to the Creation Kit is out, does anyone have any proof its out? The article claims that the Creation Kit is 40MB to download, which reflects what Steam says when you begin the download. However, like many other things, that does not match with the progress bar of the download: it shows 85.1MB total to be downloaded for the Creation Kit. Using the default voices, the timing between attacks and grunts are fine. However when using other voices they are usually late. I'm trying to find a way to make my character grunt earlier if i'm using a different voice type (I'm using MaleNordCommander) so that grunting fits with the timing of attacking. NPCs have notably an earlier grunt, notably while power attacking. This issue is most attended when playing as a Dremora, which has a very long grunt when power attacking but is very late because that very long grunt occurs when the playable Dremora swings a weapon, especially when power attacking. Does anyone have a way to solve this? SFK363 16:21, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

So, I edited my SkyrimEditor.ini file to accommodate Dawnguard and Hearthfire, but I'm still getting a 'Unable to find masterfile:Update.esm' error when trying to load Dawnguard, and the CK crashes. Cisco vwlc license. Are there any other solutions? Schiffy (talk) 19:16, 1 November 2012 (GMT)

Hey I was a D&D kinda guy when I was younger and since playing Skyrim I've noticed that it's spell system makes it kinda pointless, unlike the rest of the damage systems for weapons and enchantments etc the spell damages don't improve.
Being 100th level in Destruction and only doing 8pts a second just like a 1st is a little patronizing don't you think?
I've noticed that the element-based spells aren't really an improvement on each other(Novice/Apprentice etc) just different ways of using the element. e.g. ~ Gout of Flame ~ Bolt of Flame ~ Fireball ~ Flaming Cloak ~ Centered Firestorm ~
So I don't think they should do different amounts of damage, they should all be based on your level at that school of magic e.g. 2pts/level at 100th gives you a spell equal to that of a 100th level swordsman or archer.

I've discovered in the course of trying to get item location maps for skyrim like we have for oblivion that selecting any 'spreadsheet-style' view in the CK and pressing ctrl-f5 gives you the option to export the view's contents as a tab-delimited plaintext file. Haven't found a way to do it for many things all at once yet. Should this be noted on the page, perhaps? Xolroc (talk) 18:37, 27 October 2013 (GMT)
The information in this article seems to be incorrect / out of date. The Creation Kit can be found under LIBRARY > TOOLS where it is listed as 'Creation Kit', among a very large list of unrelated stuff.Ninepaw (talk) 09:08, 8 November 2013 (GMT)
